Muslim-Christian unite on the issue of beef
According to Siyasat (June 18), journalist Zafar Agha claimed that churches and Muslims in Goa decided that they would oppose the Centre’s attempt banning cow meat. To run this movement, an organization has been set up in the name of ‘Goa for Beef’. This organization has different kind of people of Goa and they have got backing of Goa Catholic Church and Goa Meat Association. Qureishi Meat Association filed a writ petition in Goa High Court in which the proposed Central law was opposed under which animals like Cow, Buffalo and camel would be banned. A person
called Anwar of the Qureishi Meat Association claimed that this campaign has full support of the Goa churches. He said that if this ban was not removed how Muslims would be able to perform sacrifice on Eid. Steps taken in Goa are important for Muslims on two counts first if the ban continues how would Muslims sacrifice animals on Bakried?
Agha said that there was no need for Muslims to afraid of anyone because fear is indication of slavery. If Muslims are frightened slavery will become their fate. Therefore Muslims must protest peacefully with in the Constitutional framework. The question is who will lead this movement? Goa Muslims got a new way in this regard. Muslims in Goa are miniscule in number but in this regard they knock doors of High Court and took Christians along. There are 50 per cent Christians in Goa. The Goa government is frightened with this Muslim-Christian unity. Therefore Muslims across the country must constitute a forum in every village of the country and include other minorities in it. They must unit Dalits and other backward communities in Uttar Pradesh and other states. Why Muslims are keeping silent on atrocities against Dalits in other states? If they are protesting against it within the limits of constitutional norms, they must be supported. Dalits must be invited in Iftar so Dalit-Muslims could jointly fight against it.
